++I know I'm missing the point of this article, but all I got out of it is that Neil Tennant spends a good deal of his time fielding phone calls.
++Give this single by Sister Crayon a few seconds to catch heat. The beeps trip out and get mental towards the end, in the most pleasing way possible. It doesn't quite hit Frusciante car alarm levels of intensity, but it's probably enough to wake someone falling asleep at the wheel.
Been getting such nice emails in the 'box lately. I'm going to have to invite all of you to my next tea party. Move over, Mr. Snuggles! Mostly fethival news...:
++KXSC, USC's independent radio station will present the KXSC fest on April 10th and it's *free*. Juliana Barwick and the Cool Haus truck will be there.
++Further East, the Austin Psych* Fest takes place at the Seaholm Power Plant, (sounds real Children of Men), and features Black Moth, Roky Erickson, A Place to Bury Strangers, Atlas Sound and Tobacco. It all happens April 29th through May 1st, more info here.
Eilen Jewell will thread her way through the East coast in the days to come. She sounds so wonderfully self-possessed for a young-ish woman.* Eilen Jewell Queen of the Minor Key.mp3
Twilight Hotel has inspired some pretty intense love over at Daytrotter, so I thought I'd check them out. I don't think that this is the official video, though it is beautiful (for those without Vertigo.) (Settle down, Wikipedia!)
++Oh I have a question..how come everytime I check, you ain't added L.A., Seger administrators?
++Am I the only one who keeps seeing the words 'Gilmore Girls' whenever reading these Glamour Kills ads? Someone'll be bummed when they get there and there's no Keiko Agena.
++Damn, the Frusciante song below slays me (now with less car alarm) , just wish it was longer. Another vid after the jump. (via)
Stepping back and looking at early 00s, one thing that stands out is how colorful tee shirts were and how no one was really wearing plaid and flannel yet.
++Sweden's Lctrisc may or may not have sped up an Al Pacino sample in the background of this song. Who's to say. lctrisc mxml
++Some cute lyrics in this song by Yakov Smirnov fans Overlord. "You can stop my future before it gets to start." Footage of the band playing in front of some Soviet archive footage, below.overlord oh my mechanical heart
During SXSW, some djs on KCRW were picking out bands with bad names, including Ham Sandwich. Ham Sandwich is not a horrible band name compared to many others I've seen by any stretch.
New Villager are another band straddling the line between the art world and music world. Their music is lighter than TVOTR and just a bit heavier than Yeasayer's recent stuff. I'd employ a cheese analogy here but the internet talks about cheese way too much as it is. (via)new villagers rich door
Was revisiting Emiliana Torrini's Me and Armini again this morning and thinking about how production on a song is similar to direction in a film. Some directors/producers are hammy hot doggers and others are elegant and simple.
Whoever produced Armini showed restraint towards the start and then went for it and piled on beeps and whistles at the end.
Anyhoo. Here's more from the silken voice Em, via Cover Lay Down.
Emiliana torrini i hope i don't fall in love with you
++March 22nd will be the release date of 19 year old Van Nuys' native Alex Jacob's aka Therapies Son shimmery 5 track EP. He'll also play the Sargent Showcase in SXSW.
++Innovative artist Imogen Heap plans to enlist the help of fans in creating her next few songs, and she will videoblog the whole thing. Read more instructions here.
++Eskimeau's self-released CD will be released on April the 1st. The bedroom pop project is the collaborative effort of 10 different people from 4 different cities.
Dood, the Penguin Prison remix of the Kimbra song I posted yesterday might be in the running for favorite song of the year thus far (though technically it's from last year).
It's a fine thing when the sensibilities of the remixer match those of the 'remixee' and Chris Glover's light touch bops along next to Kimbra's playfulness nicely. I like the fresh pep rally Kerstin Basler elements mixed in there too.
Here it is again for lazies. (check back below the cut later for more Penguin Prison love.)
Kimbra seems to be the Queen on the Scene (no relation) these days, poppin' up on guest vocals with Miami Horror and putting an original spin on the neo-jazz thing. Thanks to Ants and IM/UR for the introduction.
From the inbox: ++Coming out of Cincinnati,The Seedy Seeds play The Mint on March 25th. The video below is for joyous song about someone desperately needing some root touch-up. No, really it's a celebration of sorts and I'm sure I'll be able to enjoy it again one day that is not a daily savings time Monday.
Here's a track off the Seeds' new album:
++Rebel's Roar, a new album by Brooklyn duo Rocky Business drops March 22nd. This an interesting work, a fusion of Chiddy Bang and Empire of the Sun if youz can git wid dat. Rocky Business play with the Wu and the Badu on the 17th.:
++Not really music related but here's a bit of Keira Knightley in the new Chanel ad. Ooh, ahh, stylish! (I like the guy with the red glasses in the back telling his friend next to him, "you told me that this year's color was red!") Though I'm not the hugest KK fan, gotta say that she works the catsuit good:
Been having a Beastly time finding the right song to scratch today's itch. Here it is, a macabre song by Parenthetical Girls that thumps and bumps and drags its foot along like a character from a campfire ghost story. Just don't turn it off too quickly because there's another few seconds tacked on to the end there after the break in the middle. Thanks to My Blog Cliche.
Gosh! Such a busy day today, the inbox will have to wait.:
This video by Chapel Club is kind of a throwback to the days when the characters in videos used to mouth the words to the song, or back to the days when there were characters in videos in general. Or made videos at all I guess. (via)
SXSW is coming on quick. Wish I could go because SOG's blog network, MOG, is sponsoring a party at The Mohawk and check out these guests! Woop woop as the Chap used to say.
++Hey Wikipedia. Would it killa ya to put a small blue link on the last letter of the last name of Lali Puna's keyboardist Christian Heiß. <<Just like that? (via)
