What's Black and White

Easy kids
++Alright kids, settle down now, we belieb you're really a couple.

++Quit hogging the Bowl, Stavbro.

Time Flies

Baustelle
Oh good, there's a happy ending to this Baustelle video. With all the running and Italian I thought things would end badly, for sure(..like he'd turn into Katy Perry).

Looked up the lyrics and some things are definitely lost in translation.

Collective Thinking

Quails
Hars a video about Teignmouth band The Quails and their army of stylists. The Quails talk about trying to come out of the shadow of Muse and making a name for themselves.

Wonder if one day dude will ever be on one of these types of iconic posters, only for his hair. To me that would be the greater goal in being part of a band (with landing a Kate Hudson coming in a distant second.)

Used Wigs

SO much news from the 'box:

Fredrik
++Here's a minimalistic track from Sweden's Fredrik who are back with a much more modern sound vs. way back in '08. Sounds like a real natural, logical evolution for the band. Fredrik's new LP Flora is due April 12th. Fredrick Rites of Spring was here

++Save KUSF.

++Salt Lake City's The Devil Whale play Silverlake Lounge on 3/3 and Trip in Santa Monica on 3/5. Their second full-length Teeth is set to be released on 5/10/11.

Devil Whale Barracuda

++For those in New York, the first ever Governor's Ball Music Festival takes place Saturday June 18th on Governor's Island with sets by Girl Talk, Big Boi, Empire of the Sun and Passion Pit.

Found

++Edinburgh garage band FOUND are giving away remixes from their upcoming album factorycraft every Friday. Bands covered include Au Revoir Simone, Grovesnor and one of my favorites, King Creosote. Have a listen below.:

Found You're No Vincent Gallo

++Looks like they're setting Hangover 2 in some exotic locale with a monkey. If they wanted to be real crayzay they'd set it in Monkey Jungle, aka the strangest place in the world.

++Comments: Poor guy heard Hootie's version first.

++Bonus: The Mouldster and Peter Buck covering Surrender and Cinnamon Girl.:

Witchcraft Charms

Floating-Action-400x400

North Carolina's Floating Action got their name from an old Gretsch bass drum pedal, which is a great name for a band that's technically skilled with a retro (fifties/sixties) sound.

This one's fried chicken for the soul, too.

Cameron

++Cameron McGill and What Army are back with their 5th studio album,  Is A Beast, due April 12th.  McGill is the keyboardist for Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos and he and his band will be touring now through the end of April, mostly on the East Coast.  Here's a bouncy track from the new album, that's sealed with a kiss. (Tourdates after the jump.) cameron mcgill don't believe in magic mp3 was here.

Owen Pallett compliments Quietus on profiling "quite simply, the best band in the world right now."

In the profile, Demdike Stare's head spookster Miles Whitaker discusses the importance good A/V people, 'specially dudes who have old VHS tapes. ( via) demdike stare jannisary

The way Gallows play classical music gets people pumped.:

How cool would it be to be married by "Reverend Sister Go Go" aka ordained minister Jane Wiedlin?

She accepts bookings through her website and has lowered her rates!

Soul Dancing

Fay wrays

I like the mysterious lyrics of this song by Fresno post punk band The Fay Wrays. "The weatherman I feel no shame and on top of my head there is a weather vane... The one with power well I am him. When the tempest comes, I'll be there to eat your young." If they ever make this into a movie, sounds like a job for my man Breakadawn(!) Cage. fay wrays weatherman

Fast Claps

Inna

Romania's Inna is pretty huge on You Tube these days. Her song Sun Is Up just came out on iTunes (in Spain, the US and Canada). I prefer the lite, brite and fluffy hooks of this one below, though.

Choose Your Poison

Bo!

Kele picks this Brap song as one of his Top 5 for an upcoming South London show. BO!

Like a few other songs I've posted this year, this song courtesy Soundlogik patches together some raw beats that are probably too intense for a certain set of guidos. It does make for a great listen.

Nearly Civilized

Ffeature_Sculpture_Mike

Thanks to Prefix Mag, I came across this soulful beaut by Spree Wilson and Esthero. Wilson did a "wordy" video I put up a long time ago. Still searching for the song he did with Jon Brion that I'll try to post later if I find it.

Interview with Spree Wilson here.

Looking For Traction

Sail

++Sean Bones' music is so smooth and relaxing. This would be the second good song in a row from him. Oh pah, wonder if it's time to go album status with him.

No shows? Hmm. I hope when he comes to LA he plays bars because his is drinking'n' dancing music. (via)

++On the other end of the spectrum, there's the noisy Foals. Sort of; they somehow manage to make noise sound relaxing and have one of the nicest websites I've seen. Foals Miami

Devil's Dressing Room

Bosco-delrey-hi-tone-flyer

Bosco Del Rey, who in case anyone was wondering does not have a hot sauce out (seems like a good name for a hot sauce), gets the Ad Rock treatment in this rumpshaker from The Passing Static.

The Mad Decent artist's debut album Everybody Wah was done in Memphis with the help of Doug Easley, who has worked with Sonic Youth, Pavement and Wilco in the past. Sounds like a dream of the 90s.: Bosco del rey evil lives mp3

Mary Never Sings Our Songs

Soft powers

++Suwanee Georgia's echo-chamber space cowboys Soft Powers are 'unsigned'. But they are 'anticipated'. So they got that going for them. Soft Powers Mary Never Sings Our Songs mp3

Monkeys
++The Monkeys Are Coming! But not to L.A. Wow, that is some nutty sounding stuff, all it needs is Vincent Price.
