Modern Figures

One-time boy wunderkind prodigy Zach Condon of Beirut sure does love sampling the toothpicks of flavors at the International Musical Food Court.

This year he's in Mexico.

While I wish this brilliantly conceived video by Owen Cook was just a *tidge* more clear in resolution, I dig the way the visuals go along with the sloppiness of the song and the drawings of the band. LOVE the animation of the the tiny fingerwork of the saxmophonist at 1:09 and the way the video is washed out and blends together in the earthy rough and raw way that old Spanish things and art do.

The song La Llorona is from March of the Zapotec that came out in February.

Says Tripwire:

For the band’s newest EP, March of the Zapotec, Condon traveled to Mexico to partner up with mariachi ensemble Banda Jimenez from Teotitlan del Valle. The result is a rather stunning mix of trumpet, percussion, and Condon’s haunting vocals.
