Down.
The three members of the legendary glam-rock act Labelle are reuniting. Err, actually they've been reunited for the past couple of years now but their performance at the Apollo Theater in New York on Dec.19 will "mark the culmination of their cautious reunion endeavor, the New York Daily News reported Saturday."
The most recent People Magazine published several pictures of Labelle, and their looks that changed along with society: from the sweet prim girl group of the 60's, (Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles) to the space age outfits on the right.
Seems to me that, if their look and sound in their subsequent solo careers are any indication, that Nona Hendryx was the true fashion rebel who brought the grit to the group. Patti, (who I also adore) was more like your corny high school art teacher dressing up for Halloween, probably to fit in with the times. But look at Nona in the middle. She is owning and rockin' those feathers.
Anyway, much like Grace Jones who I wrote about a couple of weeks ago, Nona definitely mixed things up throughout the late 70s and early 80s. Plus she used to sing with the Talking Heads! While I'm sure people who watched her videos weren't running out to find the latest in heavily studded Sky Captain-ette fashion, her daring looks are fun to look back on. (I absolutely love the tone of her voice in the last video at the Apollo):
