I'm Not That Strong A Dancer
It's Male Synchronized Dancing Day on Stop Okay Go! Yup, happens every October 25th; sort of a national holiday round these parts. Not really.
First up, a vintage video by Peter Murphy, a cover of Pere Ubu's song Final Solution. (Look at the bone structure on this man. He is the white, male version of Grace Jones.) His male dancers have technical points deducted for a lack of synchronicity but win some artistry points for their Martha Graham-like interpretative flair.
The second video is for the song Golden Age by T.V. On the Radio that was played on Subterranean this past week. They are the clear winners in today's Male Synchronized Dancing competition, with a video that appears to be the bastard child of the Village People's YMCA and a distorted episode of Cop Rock that plays on repeat in a crazy person's mind. Oddly fascinating.
Finally, this last video ties all it all together. It is SOG favorite, the husky and hoarse Trent Reznor, in a yell-off with Peter Murphy AND TVOTR. There's a *little* bit of synchronized gut busting singing that almost breaks into male dancing but it never reaches its full potential. At the 3:40 mark Peter Murphy raises his arm as if to shyly signal that he might be up for some synchronized action but the other guys blow him off. Thwarted. Maybe next year, Peter Murphy. There's always next year :
