Quickies
-God Netflix has been all screwy lately. First there's a delay in shipping, then a flurry of emails apologizing and promising that they'll refund me my money, then emails that movies are arriving that are already here. Stop acting like my flaky good for nothing college boyfriend, Netflix!
-I was browsing through some "See How They Look Now!" gallery (Seriously, why do I do that? They snag me in every time.) and there were pics of Paul Hogan aka Crocodile Dundee then vs now. And I could've swore he was already dead. I'm sure that people subconsciously confuse him and the Crocodile Hunter all the time.
-I went and saw Tropic Thunder, and it was fun, I guess. I loved Robert Downey Jr. He has a hollowness to him, in general, that made his character a perfect fit. I was laughing at his creation of a big blank cartoon dummy when no one else in the audience was. They should've built the whole movie around him and the other actually black actor. Tom Cruise's cameo scared the beejesus out of me. He was even scarier than Heath Ledger's Joker to me. ::Cold chills::. He should play lots and lots of villains. Even if his career is on the wane, there's no denying that Cruise still has enormous screen presence.
-Prior to Tropic, there was a preview for Shia LeBeouf's next movie Eagle Eye that comes out in late September. Full disclosure, I have not seen Mr. LeBeouf's entire body of work, just a bunch of previews and trailers, and in everything I've seen he's terrified and running away from something. He'd be an awesome spokesman for adult diapers.
Eagle Eye is a Spielberg joint so naturally its flashy and large and the premise seems to be that whenever LeBeouf's or Monaghan's characters answer their cel phones, there's a "directory assistance"- type automated voice on the other end that tells them to do something and shortly thereafter, something blows up. This happens, like 4 times in the trailer.
So here's a thought. Don't answer the phone. Or ask her for movie times in Burbank to redirect the menu, say "Boop boop beep." Something.
