INTERVIEW: 3 Questions with Backyard Tire Fire
Backyard Tire Fire: The Places We Lived.mp3
Ed Anderson of the band Backyard Tire Fire, was kind enough to answer some, frankly, oddball questions for Stop Okay Go (SOG). The Bloomington, IL trio's album The Places We Lived drops August 26th on Hyena Records. They'll also be touring with the legendary Reverend Horton Heat. Be sure to right-click and give a listen to the warm and crunchy goodness of the song above. And buy the album, of course.
SOG: I love the warmth and rhythm of your song “The Places We
Lived.” It reminds me of Dr. Dog meets “Our House” by Crosby, Stills, Nash and
Young. What other comparisons do you get and how close do you think they are to
accurately describing your sound?
EA: I don’t mind comparisons,
but I kind of like to think we’ve got our own thing going on. Influences on me
include Neil Young, The Beatles, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty to name a few. The
band has been compared to all of the above, but ultimately I think we sound
like Backyard Tire Fire.
SOG: I read that you’ll be touring with the Reverend Horton Heat.
My husband once saw him perform with the Toadies and said that he can get
pretty wild. At one point he climbed on top of and seriously abused his upright bass. What do you expect it’ll be like to be out on the road with
him?
EA: Yeah, we toured with the
Rev. for about a month this past year and had a great time. Good folks. He’s a
bad ass guitar player and I love his singing voice too. That is one consistent
ass kicking rock and roll show for sure! Nashville Pussy was on that tour and
they’re a rowdy bunch as well.
SOG: Besides music I love celeb-related stuff. I just saw Tom Arnold at the beach a few weeks ago, which was exciting because I'm a big fan of his. Have you guys had any recent celeb encounters?
EA: Our Tour Manager’s sister is married to Peter Brady. For real. Last time in LA we stayed with Adrianne Curry and Christopher Knight. No shit. We were also visited by our good friend George Wendt. We got to know George at a show in Chicago where we opened for Alejandro Escovedo and kept in touch with him. He’s a fan and real good guy. In fact we’re hoping to catch up with him in NYC in October where he’s currently working on Broadway.
Thanks Ed! Tourdates after the jump...
