Young and Skillful
-I've been listening to the first few seconds of all the Girl Talk songs on their new album Feed the Animals and gagging. I mean, good for the chillin's who ain't already heard all the samples used in the songs a million times before. For an oldster like me, its McDonald's for the ears....so good luck with all that, babies. Ugh. The only song that I can somewhat tolerate is Play Your Part, Part 2. Barely. (Love, love love that cover, pictured at left, though!)
Girl Talk Play Your Part mp3 was here.
-Been reading some excellent reviews for Dash Shaw's The Bottomless Bellybutton. Though at 700 pages I can't take that ride without a primer, a test drive, if you will, not ever having read his work before. Its like signing up for a 2 year cel phone commitment with how short my attention span is these days. So ordered his shorter, cheaper book to see if I'll like it, if its a good fit. Review to follow (not really).
-I know its old news, but I felt kinda bad for making fart jokes at Tim Russert's expense in the days before he died. Dang psychic streak. Anyway, was moved, much against my will by Maria Shriver's slightly inappropriate /imperfect but ultimately well-delivered tribute, please to view here.

Isn't the point of Girl Talk to use the most obvious and pop-based samples and recontextualize them? i think you're missing the point. it's pop art
